BRANDON, Man. –  In front of a sold-out crowd Friday night inside Assiniboine Credit Union Place in Brandon. Manitoba, Jayden Roy (Mascouche, Quebec) rode in electric form, winning Round 1 of the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Canada Cup Series’ Mazergroup Chute Out. Adding to the significance of the round win, the out marked Roy’s debut in PBR Canada competition.

Roy traveled to Brandon ready to climb aboard Linebacker (Skori Bucking Bulls). In what proved to be a perfect pairing, Roy rode the bull for an unrivaled 86.8 points to win Round 1 and surge to an early event lead.

Courtesy of the top marks, Roy earned 28 national points, surging from unranked to No. 22 in the race for the 2026 PBR Canada Championship and accompanying $100,000 bonus. The 18-year-old will next attempt Thunder Down Under (Kinky Buckers) in Round 2.

Jeremy Maisonneuve (Val-des-monts, Quebec) was second, collecting 18 national points.

Maisonneuve outlasted Effective (Vold Rodeo/R Saga Ranch) for 85.2 points. With an early pick in the Round 2 bull draft, Maisonneuve selected Linebacker.

Chasing his first PBR Canada National Finals qualification this November, Maisonneuve rose two positions in the standings, climbing from No. 12 to No. 10. He now trails No. 1 Nick Tetz (Calgary, Alberta) by 359.5 points.

Tetz was unable to extend his lead atop the standings Friday night, bucked off by Pay Dsy (Skori Bucking Bulls) in a close 6.47 seconds.

Gilmar Santana (Ouro Preto, Brazil) bested Affairs In Order (Thompson Rodeo Livestock) for 85 points to finish third in the opening round.

The Brazilian sensation garnered 17 national points for the bronze showing, now No. 26 in Canada after beginning the event unranked. Santana will look to improve to a perfect 2-for-2 in Round 2 when he attempts Joker On A Jack (Thompson Rodeo/K Rose Ranch).

Two-time PBR Canada Champion Dakota Buttar (Eatonia, Saskatchewan) was fourth, collecting 16 national points. The veteran contender rode Patiently Waiting (Skori Bucking Bulls) for 84.6 points.

Seeking his record-tying third PBR Canada title this season. Buttar gained one position inside the nation’s Top 5, rising from No. 4 to No. 3. He’s now 303.5 points behind No. 1 Tetz.

In Round 2, Buttar has drafted a familiar opponent in Jet Black (Skori Bucking Bulls). At last season’s Cup Series event in Grande Prairie, Alberta, Buttar covered the bovine athlete for 87 points.

Rounding out the Top 5 in fifth was three-time PBR Canada Champion Aaron Roy (Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan). The decorated competitor netted 15 national points for his 84.4-point score on World Wide (Thompson Rodeo Livestock), climbing from No. 13 to No. 11 in Canada.

Roy also architected a rematch for Round 2, drafting Hammer Time (Skori Bucking Buls). In late April, Roy topped the bull for 85.5 points at the Touring Pro Division event in Marwayne, Alberta.

The PBR Mazergroup Chute Out concludes Saturday, May 2 with Round 2 and the championship round. Action will get underway at 7:00 p.m. CDT. Tickets are still available and can be purchased at the Assiniboine Credit Union Place Box Office and online at Ticketmaster.ca.
