CALGARY, Alta. – At the final iteration of the Cody Snyder Charity Bullbustin’, part of the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Canada Touring Pro Division, Nick Tetz (Calgary, Alberta) showed up and showed out in front of his hometown crowd, going a perfect 2-for-2 to win the event and vault to No. 11 in the intense battle to be crowned the 2022 Canadian Champion.

In the opening round of action, Tetz was dominant aboard Southern Heat (Vold Rodeo). Reaching the requisite 8, the 2018 PBR Canada Rookie of the Year was scored 84.5 points, advancing to the championship round fourth on the event leaderboard.

Tetz then readied to take on Slip Slap (Vold Rodeo/Prescott). In perfect time with the animal athlete, Tetz earned his second qualified ride of the evening, scored 87 points to clinch the victory as the crowd erupted in raucous cheer.

For his efforts, Tetz collected a crucial 25 national points. He surged from No. 15 to No. 11 in the national standings, climbing within 96.33 points of No. 1 Blake Smith (Abbey, Saskatchewan).

Courtesy of a double entry, Brock Radford (De Winton, Alberta) finished both tied for second and fourth Friday evening in Calgary.

Radford earned his runner-up finish compliments of his 88-point, Round 1-winning ride atop Blue North (Two Bit Bucking Bulls).

The Alberta sensation then netted his second Top 5 effort of the event when he conquered Thor’s Hammer (Wild Hoggs Bucking Bulls) for 86.5 points in Round 1.

Earning a combined 25 national points, Radford rose inside the Top 5 in the PBR Canada national standings, surging from No. 7 to No. 4. Seeking his first national title this November, Radford now trails the No. 1 position by 49.33 points.

Daylon Swearingen (Piffard, New York) tied for second alongside Radford, garnering 16 national points.

Despite bucking off, the 2022 PBR World Champion was one of five riders given a renewed chance at victory, advancing to the championship round on time.

Making the most of his second chance, Swearingen covered Langham Kid (Two Bit Bucking Bulls) for an event-best 88 points, cementing his silver finish.

The Carolina Cowboys rider rose from No. 6 to No. 5 in Canada. Swearingen now trails No. 1 Smith by 53.333 points.

Seeking history in 2022, should 2019 PBR Canada Champion Swearingen continue his climb up the standings he would become just the fourth multi-time national champion in history, joining the likes of three-time Champion Aaron Roy (Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan) and two-time title holders Zane Lambert (Ponoka, Alberta) and Cody Coverchuk (Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan).

Rounding out the Top 5 in fifth was the Texas Rattlers’ Coverchuk.

Going 1-for-2, Coverchuk rode Wutang (Vold Rodeo) for 86 points in Round 1 to net 6 national points.

Coverchuk gained one position in the rankings, climbing from No. 9 to No. 8. He is now within 70.33 points of the top position.

Should Coverchuk repeat as the PBR Canada Champion this November in Edmonton, Alberta, not only would he tie Roy for most national titles won by one rider, but he would become the first to win the honor in back-to-back seasons.

The 2022 PBR Canada season will continue July 9 in Picture Butte, Alberta, for the Coyote Flats PBR. Action at Coyote Flats will begin at 6:00 p.m. MDT.
