CLUNY, Alta. – Marking his eleventh career PBR (Professional Bull Riders) victory, Garrett Green (Meeting Creek, Alberta) won the second iteration of the Cluny Charity PBR, presented by Drivers Collision, Saturday evening, surging from unranked to No. 4 in the national standings.

The 29-year-old’s golden finish was headlined by a Round 1 victory. Getting off to a hot start, Green dominated the opening round, covering Blue North (Flying High Rodeo Co.) for an event-best 86 points.

Green, however, wasn’t able to conclude his home province event with a qualified ride, dispatched by Sam Crow (Flying High Rodeo Co.) in the championship round.

For his efforts, Green collected 25 national and 10 world points. Unranked in the race for the 2021 PBR Canada Championship prior to the event, Green surged to No. 4 compliments of the win, inching within 13 points of the top position.

On the spurs of his event win of the 2021 season Friday evening in Cluny, 2018 PBR Canada Champion Cody Coverchuk (Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan) finished fourth on the final day of action to extend his lead atop the national standings.

Going 1-for-2, Coverchuk went the distance atop Beast of Burkenshaw (Flying High Rodeo Co.) in Round 1 for 82 points.

Coverchuk’s second Top-5 finish of the season netted him 6 national and 3 world points. After beginning the event 5 points ahead of No. 2 Jared Parsonage (Maple Creek, Saskatchewan), Coverchuk now leads the second-place contender by 11 points.

Should Coverchuk claim the 2021 PBR Canada Championship he would join an elite contingent of riders who have won the national title in multiple seasons. As the lone two riders to date to accomplish the feat, Aaron Roy (Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan) earned his Canadian titles in 2008, 2010 and 2012, while Zane Lambert (Ponoka, Alberta) topped the field in 2013 and 2017.

Attempting to become the first-ever back-to-back PBR Canada Champion in league history, Dakota Buttar (Kindersley, Saskatchewan) was third, earning 11 national and 4 world points.

The 2020 PBR Canada Champion earned his qualified ride aboard Twisted Soul (X6 Ranch Bucking Cattle) in the opening round, marked 83.5 points.

Continuing his climb up the national standings, Buttar rose three positions, now tied for the No. 2 rank alongside Parsonage. Buttar is within 11 points of No. 1 Coverchuk after beginning the Touring Pro Division event 16 points back.

Riding to his career-best finish in PBR competition, Tyler Craig (Crossfield, Alberta) was second, earning 15 national and 6 world points.

The motivated young gun’s outing was headlined by an 84-point effort atop Up Shift (Vold Rodeo) in Round 1.

Craig’s first-ever silver finish allowed him to crack the Top 5 in the national standings, climbing from No. 11 to No. 5. He now trails No. 1 Coverchuk by 19.17 points.

Lonnie West (Cadogan, Alberta) was fifth.

The PBR World Finals qualifier earned 4 national and 2 world points after making the 8 aboard Boogieman (Wilson Rodeo) for 80 points in the first round.

West is now tied for the No. 13 rank in the national standings, 34 points behind the top spot.

Ashton Sahli (Red Deer, Alberta) was the final contender to deliver a score Saturday evening at Coulee Creek Farms.

The 20-year-old parlayed a 78-point score on Times Up (Wild Hoggs Bucking Bulls) in Round 1 into a sixth-place finish overall, netting 2 national and 1 world point.

Seeking his second appearance at the PBR Canada National Finals in 2021, Sahli is now No. 12 in the Canadian standings, having risen one position.

PBR Canada’s Touring Pro Division next travels to Kinsella, Alberta and the Kinsella Fairgrounds for the Kinsella Gravel Dome Bullarama on July 21. Action gets underway at 7:00 p.m. MDT.
