LLOYDMINSTER, Sask. – Courtesy of matching 2-for-2 showings, Blake Smith (Abbey, Saskatchewan) and Marcos Gloria (Central de Minas, Brazil) tied for the event win this past at the Lloydminster PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Winter Classic, victorious at the 2022 season-launch Touring Pro Division event in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan.

For Smith, the win marked the first of his PBR career.

The 20-year-old began his march to the golden finish after recording the top score of Round 1, outlasting Monkey Dance (Wild Hoggs Bucking Bulls) for 87 points.

Smith remained perfect in Round 2 when he reached the requisite 8 aboard Eski Time (Wild Hoggs/Colin Eskeland) for 83.5 points.

The Saskatchewan contender left his home province event having earned 24 national points, now No. 2 in the early race for the 2022 PBR Canada Championship, a mere 1 point removed from the top spot.

Brazilian sensation Gloria was quick to strike in the opening round of action. He punched his ticket to the second round compliments of his runner-up finish in Round 1, scored 85.5 points aboard Boots (CS Bucking Bulls).

Gloria then surged to the top of the leaderboard alongside Smith after he covered Ain’t About Fame (Thompson Rodeo Livestock) for 85.5 points in Round 2.

Garnering 25 national points, Gloria is now the No. 1-ranked rider in the PBR Canada standings.

Two-time and reigning PBR Canada Champion Cody Coverchuk (Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan) and three-time titleholder Aaron Roy (Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan) tied for third in Lloydminster as the final two contenders to cover both of their bovine athlete opponents.

Now amidst a four-out ride streak on Canadian soil, Coverchuk earned the podium finish after riding Oh Henry (Vold Rodeo) for 82 points in Round 1, and Back Cracker (Vold Rodeo) for 85 points in Round 2.

Coverchuk collected 12 national points. He is now No. 3 in the standings, 13 points behind No. 1 Gloria, as he attempts to become the first rider in history to be crowned the PBR Canada Champion in back-to-back seasons.

Roy’s bronze showing was earned after he covered Mr. Smooth (Wild Hoggs/Trevor Williams) for 84 points in Round 1, and Cash Grab (Wild Hoggs Bucking Bulls) for 83 points in the final round.

The stoic Canadian collected 8 national points, and is now No. 4 in the standings, 17 points behind the top ranking, as he seeks his unprecedented fourth national title in 2022.

Rounding out the Top 5 in fifth was Micheal Ostashek (Edson, Alberta), earning 6 national points.

Ostashek’s efforts were headlined by his 85-point score on Buster (CS Bucking Bulls) in Round 1.

In the bull pen, Tractorland.ca (Wild Hoggs/Trevor Williams) and Ted (Wild Hoggs/Corey Chmelnyk) tied for the Bull of the Event honor, each recording a 43.5-point score.

Both out in Round 2, Tractorland.ca bested Ashton Sahli (Red Deer, Alberta) in 7.6 seconds, while Ted upset Tyler Craig (Crossfield, Alberta) in 3.69 seconds.
