KINDERSLEY, Sask. – After the dust settled on two nights of fierce PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Canada Touring Pro Division action in Kindersley, Saskatchewan, Jake Gardner (Fort St. John, British Columbia) emerged supreme, going a perfect 3-for-3 to win the Energy Dodge Dakota Buttar Invitational and close within a mere 1.5 points in the race for the 2025 Canadian Championship.
Gardner first put points on the board in Round 1 when he bested Black and Decker (X6 Ranch Bucking Cattle) for 82 points. Positioned eighth on the leaderboard ahead of Round 2, Gardner then punched his ticket to the championship round and climbed the leaderboard courtesy of an 82.5-point score aboard Says Who (Thompson Rodeo Livestock).
In the final round, Gardner elected to go head-to-head with Dark Mark (Flying Four Bucking Bulls). Remaining in perfect time with the powerful animal athlete, the British Columbia native reached the requisite 8 with ease, awarded an event-winning 82.5 points.
As the only rider to go a perfect 3-for-3, Gardner’s win earned him a crucial 125.5 national points. While he remained No. 2 in the race for the 2025 PBR Canada Championship and accompanying $100,000 bonus, he decimated No. 1 Dakota Buttar’s (Eatonia, Saskatchewan) lead from 21 to 1.5 points.
Buttar, however, prevented Gardner from overtaking the top spot by finishing second at his namesake event to collect 106 national points.
After bucking off Woozy (Foley Bucking Bulls) in a close 3.73 seconds in Round 1, Buttar returned with a vengeance on Championship Saturday.
The two-time PBR Canada Champion began the evening by winning Round 2 via an 86.5-point ride on Write This Down (Thompson Rodeo Livestock). He then won his second round in as many outs when he outlasted God Bless (W Sunrise) for 87 points.
Should Buttar remain atop the standings come season’s end, he would make history, tying three-time title holder Aaron Roy (Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan) for most national titles won by one rider.
Tanner Skene (Prince Albert, Saskatchewan) was third, earning 63.5 national points.
Skene delivered an 83.5-point ride on Ramble On (Big Stone Rodeo Co.) in Round 1, before conquering London Fog (Calgary Stampede) for 80.5 points in Round 2.
The home province hopeful’s bid for victory, however, came to an end in the championship round when he was bucked off by Boogey (Foley Bucking Bulls) in 3.79 seconds.
In the national standings, the bronze showing propelled Skene from No. 51 to No. 30.
Round 1 winner Tanner Eno (Coronation, Alberta) left West Central Events Centre fourth.
Eno’s event-best, 88-point ride on Nacho (W Sunrise) netted him 49 national points. Seeking his first PBR Canada Championship this November, Eno rose from No. 14 to No. 12 in the standings.
Rounding out the Top 5 in fifth was Jared Parsonage (Maple Creek, Saskatchewan).
The veteran contender collected 35 points for his 86.5-point ride on Pyper (Foley Bucking Bulls) in the event’s opening round. Parsonage remained No. 3 in Canada and now trails No. 1 Buttar by 186.17 points.
In the bull pen, Boogey bucked supreme, crowned the Bull of the Event. The powerful animal athlete was scored an unrivaled 44 points in the championship round when he bucked off Skene.
The 2025 PBR Canada season continues Saturday, September 27 in Grande Prairie, Alberta, as the Cup Series returns to competition with the PBR Peace Country Invitational. Action at Bonnetts Energy Centre begins at 7 p.m. MT.
