Dakota Buttar, Nick Tetz and Shay Marks Tie for Round 1 Win at PBR Canada Cup Series Event in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan

SASKATOON, Sask. – As an electric crowd watched on Friday night in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Dakota Buttar (Eatonia, Saskatchewan), Nick Tetz (Calgary, Alberta) and Shay Marks (Sunnybrook, Alberta) rode supreme, tying for the Round 1 win at the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Canada Cup Series’ Saskatoon Classic, presented by Redhead Equipment and CASE IH.

Two-time PBR Canada Champions Buttar and Tetz, along with Marks, all delivered 86.5-point rides in the opening round of competition inside SaskTel Centre.

Buttar covered Rock Steady (Vold Rodeo), Tetz topped Rank Frank (X6 Ranch Bucking Cattle/Legend Rodeo Stock), and Marks outlasted Grand Slam (X6 Ranch Bucking Cattle).

By way of their top marks, each of the trio earned a spot in the event’s accompanying 5/5 Bucking Battle.

Tetz let the group, besting Pyper (Foley Bucking Bull) for 87 points to finish second in the special round. Competing for just the second time since breaking his femur this past March, Tetz earned 45.33 national points Friday night. He rose from No. 18 to No. 15 in the Canadian national standings.

Buttar also converted in the 5/5 Bucking Battle. He made the requisite 8 on High Voltage (Wilson Rodeo) for 85 points to tally a third-place result.

The home province hopeful earned a combined 44.33 points. Buttar furthered his stronghold on the No. 1 rank in Canada as he chases his record tying third PBR Canada Championship, growing his lead to 67.83 points over No. 2 Jake Gardner (Fort St. John, British Columbia).

Gardner was bucked off in Round 1, tossed by Super Fly (Vold Rodeo) in 2.79 seconds.

Marks was unable to convert in the 5/5 Bucking Battle, bested by Nacho (W Sunrise) in 3.41 seconds. Netting 29.33 points for the split win in the opening round, Marks climbed from No. 30 to No. 26.

Jordan Hansen (Amisk, Alberta) finished fourth in Round 1 before winning the 5/5 Bucking Battle.

Hansen’s 8-second efforts were logged on Tombstone (TFB Ranch) for 85 points in Round 1, and Lord Fear (Vold Rodeo) for 87.5 points in the 5/5 Bucking Battle.

Earning 43 national points, Hansen remained No. 5 in Canada, but closed within 511.83 points of No. 1 Buttar.

Rounding out the Top 5 in Round 1 was Jared Parsonage (Maple Creek, Saskatchewan).

Parsonage earned 19 national points for his 84.5-point ride on Wild Time (Vold Rodeo). The veteran contender maintained his No. 3 rank in Canada, now 133 points behind the No. 1 rank.

The PBR Saskatoon Classic, presented by Redhead Equipment and CASE IH, concludes Saturday, October 25 with Round 2 and the championship round. Action will get underway at 7:00 p.m. CST.
