EDMONTON, Alta. – As the 2025 Command Tubular PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Canada National Finals, presented by Edmonton’s Best Hotels, got underway Friday night in front of a record-setting crowd inside Rogers Place, Jared Parsonage (Maple Creek, Saskatchewan) continued to ride white-hot, going a perfect 2-for-2 to not only surge to an early event lead but also further his grasp on the No. 1 rank in the race for this season’s Canadian Championship and accompanying $100,000 bonus.
Chasing his first PBR Canada Championship, Parsonage travelled to Edmonton, Alberta, leading No. 2 Dakota Buttar (Eatonia, Saskatchewan) by 71 points, and No. 3 Jake Gardner (Fort St. John, British Columbia) by 102.83 points as the three riders readied to duke it out for the coveted title.
In Round 1, Parsonage was one of 10 riders to make the requisite 8. The veteran contender rode Jet Black (Skori Bucking Bulls) for 83.25 points, tying for the seventh-best score of the opening round.
Buttar and Gardner, however, were unable to keep pace. Two-time PBR Canada Champion Buttar was bucked off by Magic Jam (Vold Rodeo) in a quick 2.16 seconds, while Gardner was tossed by Grand Slam (X6 Ranch Bucking Cattle) in 4.02 seconds.
Earning 17 national points, Parsonage grew his lead to 88 points over No. 2 Buttar and 119.83 points over No. 3 Gardner.
As focus turned to Round 2, Parsonage readied to attempt Pyper (Foley Bucking Bulls).
Nodding with confidence, the Saskatchewan hopeful dominated the powerful animal athlete for 86.25 points. The score was the second-best of Round 2 and catapulted Parsonage to an early lead at the 2025 PBR Canada National Finals.
Buttar’s resilience was on full display. Quickly rebounding from his buck off just minutes prior, Buttar delivered the third-best score of Round 2, conquering Whiskey Moon (Skori Bucking Bulls) for 85.75 points. The score allowed him to rise to sixth on the event leaderboard.
Gardner, however, continued to struggle, posting his second-consecutive buck off as he was upended by Just Cause (Vold Rodeo/R Saga Ranch) in 3.77 seconds.
When the dust settled in Round 2, Parsonage netted an additional 28 national points, while Buttar earned 24 national points.
With just two rounds of action remaining before the 2025 PBR Canada Champion is crowned, No. 1 Parsonage leads No. 2 Buttar by 92 points and No. 3 Gardner by 147.83 points.
In the battle for the National Finals event title, Parsonage is tied for the top position alongside two-time PBR Canada Champion Cody Coverchuk (Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan).
Coverchuk rode Up Roar (S&M Bucking Bulls) for 83.75 points in Round 1 and More or Less (Thompson Rodeo Livestock) for 85.75 points in Round 2 to collect 44 national points. While he is not in contention for the Canadian Championship, he climbed from No. 7 to No. 6 in the nation.
As the only other rider to be a perfect 2-for-2 thus far inside the home of the NHL’s Edmonton Oilers, Francisco Costa (Humaita, Brazil) is currently third at the National Finals.
The 2025 PBR Canada Rookie of the Year made the requisite 8 on Times A Tickin (Thompson Rodeo Livestock) for 81.75 points in Round 1 and Nine Lives (X6 Ranch Bucking Cattle) for 83.5 points in Round 2.
Costa earned 30 national points Friday evening and rose from No. 11 to No. 9 in Canada.
Rounding out the current Top 5 at the National Finals, and tied for fourth, are Jordan Hansen (Amisk, Alberta) and Callum Miller (Warwick, Queensland, Australia).
Hansen and Miller both logged 86.75-point rides to win the opening two rounds of the year-end event.
Hansen bested Margy Kat (W Sunrise) to win Round 2, while Miller began the event by winning Round 1 aboard Tactical Error (Kinky Buckers).
Hansen and Miller both collected 48 national points. In the Canadian standings, Hansen remained No. 4 while Miller, who rides for the Austin Gamblers in the separate PBR Teams league, climbed from No. 16 to No. 13.
The 2025 Command Tubular PBR Canada National Finals, presented by Edmonton’s Best Hotels, will conclude in Edmonton, Alberta, and Rogers Place on Saturday, November 15 with Round 3 and the championship round. Action will get underway at 7:00 p.m. MST.
