Dakota Buttar Wins Round 1 of PBR Canada Cup Series Event in London, Ontario

As action got underway Friday night in London, Ontario, for the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Canada Cup Series event inside Canada Life Place, Dakota Buttar (Eatonia, Saskatchewan) rode supreme, delivering the top score of the night to win Round 1 and surge to an early lead at the PBR London Classic.
Buttar was tasked with Kryptonite (Vold Rodeo) in Round 1. In what proved to be a perfect pairing, the reserved Saskatchewan man dominated the bull for an unrivaled 88.5 points.
The golden showing in the opening round of action not only catapulted Buttar to the top of the event leaderboard but also earned him a crucial 38 national points.
Chasing his record tying third PBR Canada Championship this November, Buttar remained No. 2 in Canada, but honed within 113 points of No. 1 Jake Gardner (Fort St. John, British Columbia).
Gardner was shutout in Round 1 of the PBR London Classic, bucked off by Diggin Up Bones (Thompson Rodeo Livestock) in 2.84 seconds.
Returning to the top of the event leaderboard, Jordan Hansen (Amisk, Alberta) was second).
Hansen covered Whoopsie Hustle (CJ Bucking Bulls) for 88 points, netting 28 national points.
While the veteran contender remained No. 3 in the Canadian standings, he climbed within 176.5 points of No. 1 Gardner.
Rafael Parra (Mandaguaçu, Brazil) was third.
Parra collected 22 national points courtesy of his 86-point effort atop Stray Bucks (S&M Bucking Bulls).
The Brazilian newcomer climbed from No. 16 to No. 12 in the national standings.
Compliments of an 83.5-point ride on Red Rust (Vold Rodeo), Garrett Green (Meeting Creek, Alberta) finished fourth in Round 1.
Earning 20 national points Friday night inside Canada Life Place, Green remained No. 9 in Canada. He now trails top-ranked Gardner by 318.67 points.
Rounding out the Top 5 and tying for fifth was Cody Coverchuk (Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan) and Koltin Hevalow (McAlester, Oklahoma). Both riders delivered 82-point rides to earn 18 national points.
Two-time PBR Canada Champion Coverchuk covered Great White (Black Creek Rodeo Company) while three-time PBR World Finals qualifier and Kansas City Outlaws standout in the separate PBR Teams league Hevalow bested Hat Trick (CJ Bucking Bulls).
For Coverchuk, he remained No. 4 in Canada. He is now 208.17 points behind No. 1 Garnder.
Marking Hevalow’s Canadian debut, he rose from unranked to No. 27 in the national standings.
Action for the PBR London Classic will conclude with Round 2 and the championship round on Saturday, June 7. Action gets underway at 7 p.m. ET. Tickets are still available and can be purchased at the Canada Life Place Gate 1 Box Office and online at Ticketmaster.ca.
