DEADWOOD, S.D. – When the dust settled at Deadwood Events Complex for the annual PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Touring Pro Division event in Deadwood, South Dakota, Brock Radford (De Winton, Alberta) led the contingent of six competing Canadians, going 1-for-2 to finish third at the Do Deadwood presents the Deadwood PBR, earning his first points in the race for the 2021 PBR World Championship.

As the event got underway, Radford, who was making his 2021 season debut, was electric in Round 1, covering Milk Dud (Clay Struve/Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger) for a second-best 85.5 points.

Radford’s event, however, came to an abrupt conclusion when he was stomped on by Humberto (Clay Struve/Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger) in Round 2 following his heart-breaking 7.57-second buckoff. Due to the resulting leg injury, Radford was unable to compete in the championship round.

For his efforts, Radford earned 7 world points as he attempts to qualify for the third PBR World Finals of his career. After beginning the event unranked, he is now tied for No. 98 in the world standings, 129 points outside of the Top 30 and a seeded position on the elite PBR Unleash The Beast.

Fellow Canucks Lonnie West (Cadogan, Alberta) and Riley Gagnon (Innisfail, Alberta) also registered Top-10 finishes in Deadwood, concluding the event sixth and seventh, respectively.

Both going the distance aboard their Round 1 draws, West rode Element 79 (Heald Pro Bulls/Clay Struve/Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger) for 82 points, and Gagnon covered Red Beard (Clay Struve/Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger) for 81 points.

Neither, however, were able to replicate their opening round success on Championship Saturday.

West was dispatched by Taco Cat (WSM Auctioneers/Rex Linn/Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger) in 3.62 seconds in Round 2, and later bucked off by Quickfire (Heald Pro Bulls/Clay Struve/Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger) in 3.44 seconds in the championship round.

Gagnon was bested by Pink Tornado (Clay Struve/Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger) in 4.78 seconds in Round 2, and had his event come to an end when he was sent to the ground in 5.96 seconds by Sitting Bull (Diamond Willow/Clay Struve/Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger) in the final round.

For their 1-for-3 efforts, West collected 2 world points, and Gagnon earned 1 world point.

The draw was also highlighted by three additional Canadians: Logan Biever (Claresholm, Alberta), Coy Robbins (Camrose, Alberta) and Bryce West (Cadogan, Alberta).

Each member of the trio failed to reach the requisite 8 in South Dakota.

Biever was bucked off by Pillow Drift (Clay Struve/Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger) in 6.7 seconds in Round 1 and Far West (Triplett Bucking Bulls) in 5.02 seconds in Round 2. Robbins was relegated to the sidelines due to a concussion after being sent to the ground in 3 seconds by Ol’ Brindle (Clay Struve/Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger) in Round 1. Rounding out the contingent of Canadians, Bryce West was unable to cover Boone (Triplett Bucking Bulls) in the opening round, bucked off in 2.46 seconds.

Atop the event leaderboard, Casey Coulter (Kirksville, Missouri) won the event after topping both Round 1 and Round 2.

The Missouri native registered consecutive 87-point rides, winning the opening round aboard Surprise Package (Clay Struve/Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger) before dominating Round 2 aboard Cheating Heart (Clay Struve/Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger).

Denied a perfect outing, Coulter was bested in the championship round, brought down by Delbert Sr. (Clay Struve/Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger) in 5.37 seconds.

Marking his career-first PBR event win, Coulter collected 15 world points and is now ranked No. 77 in the PBR world standings.

Second was Joe Hostetler (Homer City, Pennsylvania), earning 8 world points.

As the only other rider to go 2-for-3 alongside event victor Coulter, Hostetler rode Ink Spot (Clay Struve/Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger) for 83.5 points in Round 1 and Big Secret (Clay Struve/Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger) for 85 points in Round 2.

Unable to continue the momentum in the championship round, Hostetler was bested by Diamond Willow (Diamond Willow/Clay Struve/Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger) in 4.07 seconds.

Rounding out the Top 5, and splitting fourth place, were D.J. Parker (Ronan, Montana) and Venn Johns (Bixby, Oregon).

Both registering their qualified rides in Round 2 for a matching 85 points, Parker rode Surprise Package, and Johns made the 8 atop Leona’s Pet (Ken Barnhart/Clay Struve/Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger).

Parker and Johns each netted 3.5 world points for their showings.

The 2021 PBR Touring Pro Division season will continue June 18-19 in Bismarck, North Dakota for the Dakota Community Bank & Trust PBR Bull Riding Challenge. Action at the Bismarck Event Center will begin nightly at 7:30 p.m. CDT.
