EDGERTON, Alberta – With a menacing storm looming on the horizon, Juan Carlos Contreras (Huichapan, Hidalgo, Mexico) used a Round 1 win to capture his first event win on Canadian soil at the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Canada Touring Pro Division’s (TPD) Edgerton PBR Bullarama.

While the crowd was electrified in Round 1 after seven riders recorded qualified rides, the event was cut short as the Championship Round was cancelled due to weather.

The 27-year-old was catapulted to the win by his Round 1 winning 85-point trip on Finning Mr. Ripley (Flying Four Bucking Bulls), which earned him a check for $3,489.55 in addition to 60 world points.

The win is the surging Mexican’s second of the season, victorious in February at the Real Time Pain Relief Velocity Tour’s Worcester, Massachusetts event.

Close behind Contreras was home province hopeful Dayton Johnston (Milk River, Albert) who finished second to earn $2,586.43 and 30 world points.

His best finish thus far of the 2018 season, the second-year rider made the 8 aboard Block Buster (Wild Hoggs Bucking Bulls) for 84.5 points.

Lachlan Richardson (Gresford, New South Wales, Australia) and Edgar Durazo (Moctezuma, Sonora, Mexico) tied for third, each netting $1,417.67 and 17.5 world points for their matching 84-point scores. The international contenders delivered qualified rides atop Gretzky (Outlaw Buckers Rodeo Corp.) and Fired Up Freddy (Foley Bucking Bulls), respectively.

For Richardson, the finish is his fifth Top 10 effort in as many days. Competing at each of the five consecutive Canadian TPD events that began on July 2 in Cluny, Alberta, Richardson has gone 7-for-9 to collect 122.5 world points and 11,821.67.

Rounding out the Top 5 was young gun Daylon Swearingen (Piffard, New York) who rode 2 Dark 2 C (Outlaw Buckers Rodeo Corp.) for 83 points. He earned $695.18 and 10 world points.

The Canadian Touring Pro Division next travels to Kinsella, Alberta on July 11 for the Kinsella Gravel Dome Bull a Rama. Action at the Kinsella Fairgrounds gets underway at 7:00p.m. MT.
