PARSONAGE RIDES INTO EDMONTON RANKED NO. 1 – Veteran contender Jared Parsonage is looking to cement his name in the Western sports record books, attempting to become the first athlete in history to win the CPRA (Canadian Pro Rodeo Association) title and PBR Canada Championship in the same season. Fresh off winning his third CPRA bull riding title in early October, Parsonage made a late-season surge to begin the PBR Canada National Finals ranked No. 1. The Saskatchewan native overtook the top spot in Canada in late October by winning the final Cup Series event of the season in front of a record-setting, home province crowd in Saskatoon.
Inside SaskTel Centre, Parsonage first converted in the opening round when he logged the fifth-best score as he went the distance on Wild Time for 84.5 points. The home province hopeful then climbed the leaderboard when he tied for the Round 2 victory, covering Linebacker for 86.5 points. Parsonage then elected to go head-to-head with Moonwalk, a top contender in the race for the 2025 Canadian Global Bull of the Year title, in the championship round. A decision which proved dividends, Parsonage conquered the bovine athlete for an event best 89 points to cement the win. Courtesy of the win, Parsonage earned a crucial 240 national points, allowing him to leap-frog Dakota Buttar for the No. 1 rank.
When the dust settled on the 2025 regular season, Parsonage went a torrid 29-for-47, riding 61.7% of his animal athlete competitors. His campaign was headlined by a PBR Canada-best three Cup Series victories, along with two additional wins on the developmental Touring Pro Division. Parsonage also leads all competitors in round wins, amassing 11 across both the Cup Series and Touring Pro Division. The 2022 PBR Canada National Finals event winner also delivered the first of three 90-point rides on Canadian soil in 2025, topping Moonwalk for a monster 90 points en route to his first Cup Series win in June in Ottawa. As action gets underway inside Rogers Place, Buttar has drawn Jet Black in Round 1.
BUTTAR TO CHASE HISTORY – Two-time PBR Canada Champion Dakota Buttar will look to etch his name in the history books this weekend inside the home of the NHL’s Edmonton Oilers as he attempts to win his record-tying third national title. Winning three PBR Canada Cup Series events, Buttar delivered the top riding percentage on home soil among riders with 15 or more outs, going 30-for-47, making the requisite 8 on 63.83% of his draws. Buttar will begin the 2025 National Finals ranked No. 2 in Canada, a mere 71 points behind No. 1 Jared Parsonage. Buttar will climb aboard Magic Jam in Round 1.
GARDNER CHASES FIRST CHAMPIONSHIP – Canadian No. 3 Jake Gardner will make his way to Edmonton as the third and final rider still contending for the 2025 PBR Canada Championship, and accompanying $100,000 bonus. In addition to his Cup Series win in Brandon, Manitoba, Gardner stood atop the podium at four Touring Pro Division stops throughout 2025.
Gardner attempted the most bulls throughout the season, amassing a 34-for-65 record as he covered 53.13% of the bulls he climbed aboard. The British Columbia cowboy also registered 38 entries in 2025, tallying an unrivaled 2,877 aggregate points. By way of these two accomplishments, Gardner was crowned the 2025 Road Warrior, earning the accompanying $10,000 bonus, and 2025 Wrangler MVP, collecting the associated $25,000 bonus. Beginning his Championship quest 102.83 points back of No. 1 Jared Parsonage, Gardner has drawn Grand Slam in the opening round.
PAST PBR CANADA CHAMPIONS – After delivering a record-breaking season in 2024, Nick Tetz punctuated the year by winning his second PBR Canada Championship. Tetz traveled to Edmonton for the National Finals ranked No. 2 to Cody Coverchuk by 21.75 points. However, Tetz rode lights out inside Rogers Place clinching the title early en route to also winning the National Finals. Tetz earned a record $153,375 during the 2024 PBR Canada National Finals, including the $100,000 Champion’s bonus, concluding the campaign having won an unprecedented $249,622.29 on home soil. When the dust settled, the Calgarian finished the season having gone a torrid 34-for-61, covering 55.74% of his animal athlete opponents. Tetz also broke the season event win record. FAMILIAR WATERS – Round 1 of the 2025 Command Tubular PBR Canada National Finals, presented by Edmonton’s Best Hotels, will feature five rematches. Those riders facing familiar opponents are:
- Cauy Schmidt will look to remain perfect aboard House Fire. When the duo first met in July 2023 at the Touring Pro Division event in Calgary, Alberta, Schmidt covered the powerful animal athlete for 81.5 points.
- Ashton Sahli will attempt to even the record against Kryptonite. In their one meeting in PBR competition, Sahli was bested by the bull in 3.07 seconds during the June 2024 Touring Pro Division event in Ponoka, Alberta.
- Coy Robbins has drawn High Voltage for the second time in his career. With their lone showdown dating back to the July 2023 Cup Series event in Kelowna, British Columbia, High Voltage emerged the supreme athlete, tossing Robbins in 2.66 seconds.
- Lonnie West will look to avenge a past buck off dealt to him by Hammer Time. This past May at the Touring Pro Division event in Brooks, Alberta, West was bested by the bull in a close 5.97 seconds.
- Nick Tetz will face a familiar opponent in Hanna Motors Stand By You. The bull bucked Tetz off in a hard-fought 6.51 seconds during the May 2024 Touring Pro Division event in Brooks, Alberta.
BULL PEN – In addition to crowning a 2025 PBR Canada Champion, this weekend’s year-end event in Edmonton will also crown the season’s top bovine athlete. The 2025 Canadian Global PBR Canada Bull of the Year will be the animal athlete with the top average score when combining his Top 5 outs from the regular season across all levels of competition and his one out at the 2025 Command Tubular PBR Canada National Finals, presented by Edmonton’s Best Hotels, in Edmonton, Alberta, at Rogers Place Nov. 14-15.
The rank contingent is led by Thompson Rodeo Livestock’s Moonwalk, currently 0.4 points ahead of No. 2 contender Grand Funk. After making his PBR debut in 2022 and finishing third in the Bull of the Year race in 2024, Moonwalk has had a career year in 2025, concluding the season with a 44.1-point average score. Bucking 12 times on home soil throughout the season, Moonwalk has claimed a PBR Canada-best five Bull of the Event titles; one earned via a career-best 45.5-point bull score.
Moonwalk first topped the scoreboard in early February, earning his first Bull of the Event title of 2025 at the season-launch Cup Series event in Red Deer, Alberta marked 43.5 points for 7.62 seconds of work against Jerson Arantes. Making three additional outs following his impressive season debut, Moonwalk then made the journey East for the June duo of Cup Series events in Ontario. In London, Moonwalk delivered the top bull score of the season, awarded 45.5 points when he bucked off Jordan Hansen in 5.87 seconds, also collecting his second Bull of the Event award.
As the season continued, Moonwalk earned an additional three Bull of the Event titles, also leading the field at the Cup Series events in Ottawa (44.5 points) and Kelowna, British Columbia (43.5 points), and the Touring Pro Division stop in North Battleford, Saskatchewan (43.5 points).
Moonwalk was ridden five times during the 2025 campaign – with four of those qualified rides registered by PBR Canada No. 1 Jared Parsonage. Parsonage notably rode the powerful animal athlete for 90 points en route to his Cup Series win in Ottawa in June, and for 89 points to capture the victory in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in late October which allowed the veteran rider to overtake the Canadian No. 1 rank. In those trips, Moonwalk was marked 44.5 points and 43 points, respectively.
While Moonwalk leads the standings, he is closely followed by reigning Bull of the Year Grand Funk who is attempting to become the first back-to-back winner of the coveted honor in PBR Canada history.
Hailing from Kinky Buckers, Grand Funk also bucked to a PBR Canada best five Bull of the Event honors, holding a 43.7-point average score ahead of the 2025 PBR Canada National Finals. He was the top marked animal athlete in Red Deer, Alberta; Camrose, Alberta; Kelowna, British Columbia; Armstrong, British Columbia; and Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
Grand Funk was scored a season-best 44 points twice across the 2025 campaign. He first delivered the marks at the Touring Pro Division event in Armstrong when he bucked off Gilmar Santana in 5.06 seconds, while Grand Funk most recently lit up the scoreboard at the Cup Series season-finale in Saskatoon when he launched Lonnie West in 6.72 seconds.
In 2025, Grand Funk was ridden just once in seven outs. The lone rider to crack Grand Funk’s code was none other than No. 1 Parsonage. He rode the bull for 88.5 points at the Cup Series event in Lethbridge, Alberta, in mid-March.
