Bohon wins PBR season opener in Ottawa

01/14/2012

OTTAWA – The only rider to cover 2 bulls in Ottawa tonight, Matt Bohon (Colecamp, MO) takes home the title for the Canadian Cup season opener.  After riding Black Magic for 81.5 points, Bohon trailed Canadian fan favorite Zane Lambert by 1.5 points.  He managed to hold onto Stink Bug in the short go to bring home the win.

Bohon takes home just under $7500 from Ottawa and leads the season standing with 144.5 points.  Zane Lambert (Westborn, MB) was second with 83 points after being bucked off his short go bull Mean Machine.  Lambert has high hopes of becoming the 2012 PBR Canadian Champion after missing the title by only 980 points in 2011.

Devon Mezzei (Stettler, AB) finished third with 81 points by hanging onto Not Ta Nite. Alberta cowboy Garrett Green rode One Way for 80 points, and finished fourth in the average.  Jesse Torkelson (Warburg, AB) rounded out the top 5 after making the buzzer on Doc Holiday and earning 76.5.

Ottawa was the first stop for the Canadian Cup Series, which will make 10 stops before the Canadian Finals in Saskatoon on Nov. 16-17, 2012. The Canadian Finals are where the national Champion will be crowned and awarded the coveted Championship Buckle along with a cash bonus.

The Canadian Cup Series will travel to Winnipeg for the second stop on the tour Saturday, Feb. 11 at MTS Centre. Bull riding begins at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets are available at the MTS Centre box office, www.Ticketmaster.ca, and by telephone at 855.985.5000.

The PBR Canadian Champion is determined by the most points earned throughout the season and at the Canadian Finals.
